REACH Natural Polymers: Joint Associations Letter

GO!PHA, in collaboration with other like minded associations Renewable Carbon Initiative, European BioplasticsBioChem Europe, EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries, and EDANA, the voice of nonwovens provided feedback and recommendation to the European Commission on Section 3.2.1.3 of the Microplastics amendment to Annex XVII of the REACH Regulation. We welcome this inter-association collaboration to work towards maintaining and encouraging innovation and growth in the EU for natural polymers that are circular, sustainable, and renewable and are an important part of the circular economy.

One of our viewpoints; PHA is being commercially produced today through microbial fermentation, similar to the way they are produced in nature. Therefore industrial PHA are also natural polymers in a similar fashion to industrially produced cheese, wine, and beer which are all considered natural.
